Vrysi Tyrnavou It may change its appearance depending on the season or the time of day, but the Vrysi Tyrnavou (Tyrnavos Spring/Fountain area) steadfastly remains the beloved recreational spot for the people of Tyrnavos – and for visitors too!
It holds a special place in the hearts of young children, who never miss a chance to ask their parents to take them "to see the duckies." Besides the ducks (and geese), the small lake teems with a variety of fish. The surrounding area has been thoughtfully landscaped (featuring outdoor barbecue grills, tables, and benches) to comfortably host family picnics, as well as larger celebrations and lively tsipouro-drinking gatherings during major holidays. The site also boasts a taverna and a cafeteria, open from morning until late in the evening. Towards the end of August each year, the area comes alive with the sounds of the popular music "Vrysi Tyrnavou Festival," which has become a beloved local tradition. The enduring, close relationship between Tyrnavos and Vrysi wasn't always just about leisurely strolls. In years past, the springs of Agia Anna located here served as the primary water source for the town and many surrounding villages. In different times, this was the spot where local shepherds gathered their flocks for the annual sheep shearing and the crucial first washing of the wool, preparing it for the looms that would weave dowries for the local girls. On and around the rocky knoll crowned by the little chapel of Agia Anna, which overlooks the lake, archaeological excavations have unearthed significant finds dating back to the Neolithic Era. Among these discoveries was a remarkable terracotta bust depicting a female figure. Related Tags TYRNAVOS - Tsipouro gladdens the heart…, OLYMPUS - Thessaly’s Quiet Power,
