Stomio, Larissa Stomio is one of the favorite holiday destinations of the people of Larissa – and not only. Its shallow waters are also preferred by thousands of Balkan neighbors who flock with their cars or caravans.
In the summer, Stomio has its moment of glory. The coastal settlement (about 48 km from Larissa) with good hotel and camping infrastructure, taverns, café-bars, as well as suitable conditions for windsurfing and other water sports becomes extremely popular when the weather dictates sea.But it retains its interest in other seasons as well. The biotope created by the estuary of the Pineios River, a stone's throw from the settlement, offers impressive images to the visitor. A short distance away, on the slopes of Kissavos, is also the monastery of Agios Dimitrios, an important pilgrimage site in the area. Many still refer to Stomio by its old name "Tsagezi", of Turkish origin, which means exactly what the Greek name means, the "mouth", the estuary of the river (from the words Çay (river) ağzı (the mouth) çay-ağzı). With this name, it is also mentioned in the song "Fanoi" by Nikos Papazoglou, a song dedicated to the lighthouses-beacons of the Thermaic Gulf that the Asia Minor refugees saw upon their arrival in Greece:"The cape of Epanomi needs attention, its sand is waiting for you to get stuck. The port of Pydna does not guard against the weatherand Tsagezi is now far away for you to return" Related Tags KISSAVOS - Gazing Out at the Aegean, TEMPI - The Enchanted Valley, LARISSA BEACH - Countless Kilometers of Aegean Coastline, OLYMPUS - Thessaly’s Quiet Power,
