Canoeing in the Pineios DeltaOfficially designated as a “Landscape of Outstanding Natural Beauty” and recognized as a vital wetland ecosystem, the Pineios Delta is an ideal destination for gentle exploration by canoe.
The final watery meanders of the Pineios appear even more magical from the riverbed. In the tranquil waters beneath the lush green canopy of dense vegetation, you’ll discover fjords, islets, fishing huts, and 225 species of birds.A peaceful and entertaining descent that begins shortly after the Tempi Valley and ends where the river merges with the Aegean Sea. Ideal for all ages, also recommended for families, and available all year round. Summer and autumn are the best seasons to try it, as the waters of Pineios are exceptionally clear during this period. Among the heavy shadows of the trees along the lush riverbanks fly cormorants, ducks, herons, and Dalmatian pelicans hiding in the riverside forest and the sand dunes. After a short stop at the small fishing port and a brief encounter with the “blue crabs,” paddling continues beyond the sandy “edge” for about three hundred meters into the sea, culminating at the vast sandy Strintzos beach. There, the experience is enriched with archery, yoga, and birdwatching sessions.Duration of the canoe descent: 1.5 – 2 hoursTotal duration of the program: 4 – 5.5 hoursFor more information, contact the companies that organize alternative activities in the area:Trekking Hellas East Thessaly Olympos Trek Related TagsLARISSA BEACHES - Countless Kilometers of Aegean Coastline,TEMPI - The Enchanted Valley,OLYMPUS - Thessaly’s Calm Power,
