Kardasis Distillery in Tyrnavos

In the heart of the Thessalian plain, among the vineyards of Tyrnavos, the Kardasis family — with deep roots in vine cultivation and the art of distillation — continues a tradition that has lasted for over a century.

Kardasis Distillery in Tyrnavos

The story of the Kardasis family begins in the early 20th century, when their ancestors were engaged in the wine trade and vine cultivation. In 1924, they acquired their first still, marking the beginning of a long journey in tsipouro production.

For decades, tsipouro was sold in bulk, until 1989, when bottling was officially permitted, opening new horizons for the family business. Initially, the move was met with skepticism from the public, who associated bottling with “industrialization.”

However, with the official founding of the distillery in 1991, the Kardasis distillery-liqueur company succeeded in earning consumer trust through its commitment to quality, the use of pure raw materials, and strict quality control.

Vertically integrated production with respect for nature

The company’s modern facilities are located at the 5th km of the Tyrnavos–Larissa road, surrounded by a privately owned 15-stremma vineyard. In total, the family cultivates 127 stremmata, using controlled pesticides and organic fertilizer made from distillation by-products. The entire production process is vertically integrated, ensuring consistent quality from vineyard to label.

The company has invested in technological modernization and implements certified food safety systems (ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000), maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.

Distinctive labels and awards

Kardasis products have been recognized in international competitions, winning gold medals and receiving high praise. In addition to the Greek market, they are exported to more than ten countries worldwide, including the USA, Canada, China, Israel, the UK, and Austria.

Among the distillery’s most exceptional creations are:

Distiller’s Choice 2021 - An exceptional aged distillate that matured for three years in 200-liter French oak barrels (heavy toasted). The 2017 vintage was bottled in only 536 bottles, with rich aromas of roasted nuts, plum, cinnamon, and a buttery texture.
Kardasis Aged Tsipouro -  Made from Muscat of Tyrnavos grapes, aged for 18–24 months in French and American oak barrels. It develops fine aromas, rich flavor, and a long, complex aftertaste. Best enjoyed neat in a tulip or old fashioned glass, accompanied by nuts and bitter chocolate.
Golden Harvest - A high-quality white distillate made from Hamburg Muscat grapes cultivated since 1958. Produced from a carefully selected middle cut of the distillation, it offers intense citrus aromas and a floral character. Ideal for sipping or use in contemporary mixology.
Golden Recipe – 100% Dry Ouzo – A unique distillate based on a nearly 100-year-old recipe passed down from the Kardasis grandfathers during the Asia Minor Campaign. It contains 16 herbs and seeds, with no added sugar, offering natural sweetness and aromatic complexity.
Tsipouro Without Anise - The family’s classic tsipouro, made from black Muscat of Tyrnavos, without the addition of anise. It offers aromas of roses, blackberry, peach, and citrus. Best served neat at 12–15°C, alongside traditional Greek meze.
Tsipouro with Anise - The traditional version of Tyrnavos tsipouro, with anise, bears the Kardasis family’s signature and remains true to the region’s roots. With natural essential oils, a mild character, and balanced sweetness, it highlights the anise aroma without overpowering the richness of the distillate. Ideal to accompany meze, seafood, or fish, or simply enjoyed as an aperitif.
Aegean Distilled Dry Gin - The first Greek gin distilled from grape alcohol. Featuring ingredients from the Aegean coastline – Chios mastiha, Argolida citrus fruits, Cretan rosemary, and mint from the Sporades – it offers a unique experience of freshness and island essence.
