Koukounaries beach in Skiathos

Koukounaries is located in the southwestern part of Skiathos, next to the settlement of the same name, which was formerly called Strofylia. It is one of the two most popular beaches on the island, along with Lalaria and is known for its very fine, "golden" sand. It is awarded every year with a "Blue Flag". It is an organized beach with easy access, either by private car or by local transport. It is also connected to the City of Skiathos, with tourist boats that make daily excursions.

Beyond the crystal clear waters, you can enjoy all kinds of water sports (skiing, jet ski, windsurfing, etc.), while at one end of the beach operates the Skiathos Diving Center. Koukounaries is a favorite "stop" for sailors who cross the Sporades, who often moor "at anchor" to enjoy this unique beach.

Koukounaries stands out for the wonderful pine forest that is "behind" them and in which you can wander following special paths. But the biggest surprise is hidden "behind" the forest and is none other than the Strofylia lagoon, a wetland of great importance, with an area of 350 acres. It has been declared a Wildlife Refuge, having also been integrated into the European Natura 2000 network. It is also offered for bird watching.

Next to the lagoon develops the settlement, where you will find many hotels, guesthouses, camping as well as many taverns, restaurants, bars, ouzeri, cafes.

Towards the end of the day, when the tourist boats have left and with them the majority of visitors, those who remain enjoy along with the tranquility and a wonderful sunset, although this is even more impressive on the neighboring beaches Banana and Small Banana.
