Skiathos Maritime MuseumThe awarded Museum of Maritime and Cultural Tradition of Skiathos takes us on a journey through two centuries of shipbuilding and maritime history of the island.
Thanks to its geographical location and safe harbor, Skiathos was destined to play a significant role in shipbuilding and maritime tradition. The island's connection to seafaring dates back centuries and has continued uninterrupted to the present day.The permanent collection of the museum consists of more than 600 exhibits, while it also hosts a small tribute to the Navy and the history of the submarine Lambros Katsonis, which sank off Skiathos in 1943. It was founded in 2015 and is housed in the cultural center located on Bourtzi, a small pine-covered peninsula that divides the port of Skiathos in two. Bourtzi is a rare gem of a recreational spot, offering stunning views and featuring a beautiful open-air summer theater. The museum received the 2024 award from the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN) during a special ceremony held on January 11, 2025. Established in 2014, these are the only awards in Europe dedicated exclusively to cultural tourism.Related TagsSKIATHOS - Cosmopolitan Charm,SKIATHOS, SKOPELOS, ALONNISOS - Island Hopping in the Emerald Aegean,
