Vakratsa Mansion in Skopelos

A very characteristic Skopelitis mansion that you should not miss is the Vakratsa building located in the center of Chora, in the neighborhood of Agios Michael and a short distance above the beach.

Vakratsa Mansion in Skopelos

The mansion was owned by the doctor Antigoni Vakratsa, who offered it as a donation to the Municipality to become a museum. Its collection includes various personal items and valuable heirlooms that belonged to the family. The magical experience of getting to know the past of the place can be enriched by your participation in cultural events that are often organized in the courtyard of the mansion with the characteristic palm tree. The objects on display are all of priceless value and come mostly from the ports of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, where the ships of the Rebaki family arrived.

In this way, the aesthetic perception of another era is revealed. The furniture, the women's Skopelitis costumes, the icons, the paintings, the embroideries, the porcelains, the metal objects reflect and depict in the most vivid way the Skopelos of a period of more than 250 years.

The image is ideally complemented by the photos on the walls and the diplomas (one with the signature of the immortal national poet K. Palamas) of the family, which immortalize many interesting points in the history of the place. At the same time, the medical tools arouse the interest of the visitor, as they show the means by which doctors tried to perform their ministry, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century in the province.

The Mansion is open every morning from 10:00 to 13:00, from Monday to Friday. General admission is €2.
