Autumn in the Mamali Forest

Passing above Verdikoussa, the "village of large families," in the Municipality of Elassona, high in the Antichasia Mountains, you will find yourself in the "heart" of a wonderful beech forest, the Mamali Forest. The area is integrated into the NATURA 2000 network. The autumn colors in this "corner" of Thessaly are dazzling. In the forest you will find a large network of trails, routes for mountain biking, kiosks to rest and fountains to quench your thirst. Very close to the highest point of the mountain, you will also find a beautiful treehouse. On the road that crosses the forest, it is very likely that you will meet Verdikoussiot loggers stacking wood for the winter. At the highest point of the mountain, on the old border line of 1912, you will find a stone-built "Kazarma", an old Turkish border outpost.

During the summer months, a three-day camping festival, the "Mamali Enduro Camp", is organized in the Mamali Forest. In addition to enduro races, running races, artistic workshops for young and old, and a number of concerts with established artists take place.
