New Impressive Mural in Larissa

The impressive new mural titled “Politeia”, generously bringing colour to the city’s grey “canvas”, is located on one of Larisa’s main thoroughfares, Iroon Polytechneiou Street, on the building of the 39^th Primary School, in the Agios Konstantinos district.

It portrays characteristic buildings and landmarks of Larissa, from both the present and the past. The mural is the work of internationally acclaimed Portuguese artist Francisco Fonseca, who spent countless hours high up on the scaffolding to bring it to completion, with the invaluable assistance of Dutch artist Eva Halfers, over a period of six days.

Francisco Fonseca (known as “Francis.co”), who has millions of followers on social media, was one of the official guests of the LAComics Festival Vol. 8, held at the Pappas Mill from 4 to 6 September and now regarded as one of the most important institutions dedicated to the “ninth art” in Greece.

“Francis.co’s” artistic intervention forms part of the festival’s ongoing commitment to leaving a permanent artistic mark on the city’s public spaces. The mural joins the murals created in previous years by artists who were hosted at the festival, which have since become an integral part of Larisa’s urban landscape.

The LAComicsFestival

Over the course of three days, more than 140 artists took over the Artist Alley at Pappas Mill, while walls were transformed with murals and graffiti, the stage came alive with music and stand-up comedy, and the festival’s halls hosted exhibitions, talks, workshops, presentations and animation screenings.

LAComicsFestival Vol.8 was co-organised by the Municipality of Larissa — Deputy Mayoralty for Culture, the EΤουΚου Comics and Arts Association and Project ΙππόΚαμπος, with co-funding from the THESSALIA programme (ESPA 2021–27) of the Region of Thessaly and co-financing from the European Union.
