Spring Spectacle in the Thessalian PlainEven before March arrives, the Thessalian plain awakens from its “winter hibernation” and offers an explosion of colors and aromas, with the almond trees taking the leading role.
The ever “impatient” almond tree heralds the arrival of spring with its white or soft pink blossoms. In areas where it is systematically cultivated, such as around Sykourio, Tyrnavos, or between Lake Karla and Mavrovouni, the spectacle it offers is truly dazzling. Its blooming begins in February (sometimes even from late January) and lasts roughly until mid-March. In areas where almond cultivation coexists with that of peach trees (such as around Tyrnavos), the blossoming of the two trees overlaps around mid-March, offering not only white and pink hues but also a more intense, almost fuchsia shade. In Sykourio, an area closely associated with almond cultivation, the event “The Roads of the Blossoming Almond Trees” is organized every year. The event includes hiking, cycling, music, dance, and a photography contest, while visitors have the opportunity to taste local delicacies made with almonds.Related TagsTEMPI - The Enchanted Valley,TYRNAVOS - Tsipouro gladdens the heart…,KISSAVOS - Gazing Out at the Aegean,MAVROVOUNI - Thessaly’s “Unknown” Mountain,OLYMPUS - Thessaly’s Calm Power,
