Agioi Anargyroi Hermitage in Mavrovouni

Somewhere between the plain of Agia and the beach of Agiokampos lies the "hidden" monastery of Agioi Anargyroi and its "secret" cave hermitages.

Agioi Anargyroi Hermitage in Mavrovouni

A few kilometers after Agia, on the road to Agiokampos, you will see a sign on your right and an uphill road leading to the Monastery of Agioi Anargyroi, where the two-story fortification tower with the vaulted roof stands out.

But the most impressive sights are hidden behind the dense foliage of the trees on the rocky, vertical slopes of Mavrovouni. Following a very short path, and after crossing a small stream, you will find the staircase leading to the Hermitages of Agioi Anargyroi (but be careful, because landslides occur!).

These are two small churches, the main hermitage and a small vaulted church, as well as the retreats located in the natural hollows of the surrounding rocks. They probably date back to the 12th century, and inside the main hermitage, you will see impressive frescoes on the rock.

Returning to the monastery's forest, you will find an organized recreation area, where a celebration is organized on May Day, gathering a crowd of people.
