Early Christian Basilica – A Monument of Faith and Architecture

One of the Frourio's most significant landmarks is the Early Christian Basilica of Saint Achillios, dating back to the 6th century AD. This impressive church was dedicated to the patron saint of Larissa, Saint Achillios. Archaeological findings testify to the monument's immense religious and cultural importance, while the ruins of the church offer visitors a rare opportunity to connect directly with Byzantine architecture.

The Bezesteni – Heart of the Ottoman Market

Just a few steps away stands the imposing Bezesteni, one of the few surviving covered Ottoman marketplaces in Greece. Built in the 15th century, the Bezesteni was a bustling hub for trading luxury goods such as fine fabrics and precious jewellery. With its distinctive architecture (it once boasted a roof supported by six domes), the building offers a unique glimpse into the commercial and social life during the Ottoman period.

The Frourio area is more than just an "archaeological park;" it's a vibrant space brimming with cafes, intimate bars, and cultural venues. Here, the old seamlessly meets the new, inviting visitors to enjoy leisurely strolls among historical monuments before relaxing at spots offering panoramic views across the cityscape.
