Here, visitors enter a mysterious and fascinating world. Around 250 species of mushrooms are presented within themed dioramas that faithfully recreate their natural environment, while the experience is enhanced by projections and sounds that bring it “to life.”Image The simulations of the natural environment, in a specially designed space, make the exhibits transform before the visitor’s eyes—without the use of screens or devices—creating a sense of participation and exploration. At the same time, the museum offers the opportunity to take part in mushroom and truffle tastings, where visitors sample select local products and discover the flavors of Thessaly’s nature through an authentic experience. The Mushroom Museum is not merely an exhibition—it is a living organism that connects knowledge with gastronomy, nature with culture. A visit reveals how rich, delicate, and colorful the small-scale world of life can be, a world we often overlook.Image A museum with top distinctionsSince its founding, the Meteora Natural History Museum has managed to stand out, earning more than a hundred awards. As stated in an official announcement, “Winning awards has become… a habit. 101 awards in 10 years of operation is certainly impressive!”In 2025 alone, by participating in four different international competitions – the Mediterranean Taste Awards, Specialist Awards, Olymp Awards, and Best Greek Food Awards – it won a total of 16 awards: one platinum, ten gold, four silver, and one bronze. These consecutive distinctions place it among the most awarded museums in Greece, confirming the consistency and passion with which it serves its mission.Image Parallel activitiesWithin the museum premises, there is a café and gift shop where visitors can find a wide variety of mushroom and truffle products, books about mushrooms, souvenirs, and mushroom-picking accessories. The “Asproparis” hall hosts art exhibitions, educational workshops, and various activities related to the museum’s themes. The same hall, which has a capacity of 100 people and audiovisual equipment, can also accommodate lectures, seminars, book presentations, and more. Many of the museum’s activities revolve around mushrooms, with the highlight being the Panhellenic Truffle Festival, held every two years in Kalambaka. Frequently throughout the year (dates are announced on the museum’s website), a “Truffle Hunt” is organized with specially trained truffle dogs. The skilled canines offer a unique spectacle, while participants learn about this exquisite and precious delicacy. At the end of the “hunt,” visitors enjoy an exceptional truffle pasta, freshly prepared on-site by expert chefs.Useful InformationAddress: 20 Pindou St., P.C. 42200, Kalambaka, Trikala.
