The Clock Tower of TrikalaThe Fortress and the Clock Tower are visible from almost anywhere in Trikala. The Clock Tower, in particular, has become the city’s true landmark!
The Clock Tower is divided into three distinct levels, with a total height of 26.60 m. The dimensions of the ground floor are 7.20×6.45 m, with a height of 15.50 m, and for unknown reasons it features three entrances. The first floor measures 4.80×4.80 m, with a height of 5.30 m and a surrounding balcony 1.75 m wide. The second floor, where the clock mechanism is located, measures 3.30×3.30 m with a height of 5.80 m and a balcony 1.25 m wide, while the clock faces have a diameter of 1.60 m. It was renovated in 1997 and is now open to visitors. The interior layout is largely different from the original. The staircase from the first floor to the clock chamber used to be a spiral one with 120 steps. Today, it exists only at the upper section. The old mechanism was placed on a wooden platform, connected to the lower chamber by a small iron staircase. It was of Greek manufacture, and the bell weighs around 1000 kilograms. On its exterior surface, it is inscribed: “CONSTRUCTED FOR THE CLOCK OF THE CITY OF TRIKKALA DURING THE MAYORALTY OF THEODOSIOS THEODOSOPOULOS IN THE YEAR 1937.”In the same location, there previously existed another clock tower built by the Ottomans in the mid-17th century. Structural issues led to its collapse during the interwar years.Related TagsTRIKALA - Hi-Tech on the River of Forgetfulness,METEORA - Between Heaven and Earth,
