Rejuvenate at Smokovo Thermal BathsIn a lush green valley of the Karditsa region, at an altitude of 450 meters on the slopes of the Agrafa mountains, the Smokovo Thermal Baths are a destination that combines natural beauty with the beneficial properties of its waters, offering visitors the ideal conditions for relaxation, well-being, and a deep connection with nature.
The fame of Smokovo’s waters is lost in the depths of time. The first references to the thermal springs date back to the 17th century. The first facilities in the area were established in 1662 by two monks from the Monastery of Rendina and were later expanded by Ali Pasha. The organized operation of the baths began in the early 20th century, and just before World War II, they recorded the highest number of bathers in Greece. Despite the interruption of their growth due to the war, by the mid-1960s Smokovo ranked as the fourth most visited spa town in the country and continues to this day to be a point of reference for those seeking natural healing and mental rejuvenation. The waters that gush from five springs are sulphurous, alkaline, and carbonated, with a temperature of around 40°C, rich in minerals and trace elements, and known for their therapeutic properties. They are recommended for the treatment of respiratory conditions, rheumatic diseases, arthritis, neuralgia, myalgia, dermatological conditions, and gynecological disorders. Visitors can choose between relaxation and therapeutic programs tailored to their needs, under the guidance of specialized staff.Guests can stay at the “Tempi” and “Meteora” hotels, operated by the Smokovo Municipal Enterprise, with a total capacity of over 200 beds.
