The Byzantine Museum of Makrinitsa, also known as “Oxeia Episkepsis,” is a true gem of cultural heritage in Pelion, ideal for lovers of history and art.

The Museum is housed in a modern building near the central square of the village and was created with the aim of preserving and showcasing the ecclesiastical treasures of the area.

Its collections include rare Byzantine and post-Byzantine exhibits, such as the 13th-century marble relief depiction of the Virgin Mary “Oxeia Episkepsis”, sacred vessels, wood carvings, banners, epitaphs, vestments, early printed books, liturgical texts, and more. You will also see rare religious icons by the folk painter Theofilos. The museum also occasionally hosts temporary exhibitions.

It offers educational programs for students, inviting schools from the Magnesia region to take part in activities that combine learning with entertainment.
