14 May 202519 + 2 Awards for Thessaly at the Tourism Awards 2025The Region of Thessaly was named Region of Honor at the Tourism Awards 2025, during a prestigious ceremony that brought together the entire Greek tourism community. The event took place on May 12, 2025, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Athens. "Resilience is the cornerstone of our development strategy," emphasized Dimitris Kouretas, Governor of Thessaly.Aiming to strengthen Thessaly’s tourism sector, the Region supported the participation of 30 businesses, organizations, and initiatives in the prestigious awards. The outcome was highly rewarding, with Thessaly receiving 19 awards and 2 honorary distinctions awarded to individuals who make the region proud.Honorary Awards The honorary awards are presented to individuals whose work contributes significantly to strengthening the region’s tourism offering. This year, the committee honored Vangelis Anetopoulos, the renowned potter from Volos, and Vasiliki Koimtzidou from Petrilo in Argithea, founder—among other initiatives—of the nonprofit organization Agrafa Heritage. Migas, Puro by Thanos Karathanos, the Tyrnavos Agricultural Wine Cooperative, Ktima Zafeirakis, Katsaros Distillery, and Kardasi Distillery.The gastronomic journey continued with a rich buffet curated by Tassoula Koufopoulou, a chef from Thessaly and owner of the restaurant Apomero in Karditsa, who highlighted the region’s local cuisine through her carefully selected dishes.The presentation of Thessalian flavors during the event underscored the importance of gastronomy as a key pillar of the region’s tourism offering, further strengthening Thessaly’s position on the map of Greece’s top culinary destinations.
