KAMPISIOI DIMOYRGOI vol. 9 – Easter Comics Extravaganza (Larisa, Mill of Pappas, April 4 & 5)

The “Kampisioi Dimiourgoi” are an institution born out of the need of the region’s creators themselves to meet, present their work, and build a vibrant hub around comics and illustration. Since then, the festival has been held consistently in 3 to 4 cities across Thessaly each year, gradually building a community that goes beyond simply showcasing works, actively supporting the creative process.

The “Kampisioi Dimiourgoi” are the “younger” yet equally vibrant sibling of LAComicsFestival, operating as a complementary independent initiative that continuously strengthens the local comics and illustration scene. Chronologically, they also laid the groundwork for the creation and evolution of the LAComicsFestival in the city of Larisa. At the same time, this year’s event also serves as an informal pre-festival action for LAComicsFestival, as it takes place at the same venue (Mill of Pappas), where the main festival will be hosted a few months later. In this context, the first announcements and visual material of the upcoming event will be presented, marking the beginning of the new festival season.

This year’s edition of Kampisioi Dimiourgoi is co-organized with the Deputy Mayorship of Culture of the Municipality of Larisa, strengthening the festival’s connection with public cultural planning and support for local artistic production.

The “Kampisioi Dimiourgoi” remain true to their character: a festival rooted in the people of the plain, the region’s artists, and the ongoing effort to create an open space for expression, collaboration, and exchange. For many creators from Thessaly, the festival has been their first step into the world of comics and festivals, acting as a springboard for their participation in exhibitions, publishing ventures, and artistic collaborations.

At the same time, over the past nine years, the festival’s continuous presence in different cities across Thessaly has significantly contributed to spreading comics culture in the region, bringing thousands of people into contact with the medium—whether as readers, creators, or visitors discovering this art form for the first time.

Although the festival is rooted in comics, it remains open to related forms of artistic expression, such as visual arts, graffiti, crafts, and music, encouraging interdisciplinarity and the coexistence of different creative practices within a shared environment.

In total, the festival features more than 30 artists with booths, along with the student groups of comics and illustration from Project Hippocampus, presenting and exhibiting their work as part of the Artist Alley / Bazaar. The program is further enriched with live music performances, animation screenings, workshops, presentations, and exhibitions, shaping a multifaceted environment of cultural exchange and creative expression.
