DANIEL – A Multi-Award-Winning Documentary in Karditsa

The screening is part of the pre-festival events of the 3rd International Short Film Festival Opsis (KISFFO), which will take place from August 28 to 31, honoring the distinguished director Angelos Frantzis.

The documentary "Daniel" had its official premiere in Greece at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival as an Official Selection at TiSFF 2024, and then traveled worldwide, receiving impressive acclaim. In India, it was screened at the Museum of Art and Culture, winning five first prizes. In London, it participated in the Film and Photography Festival, winning the ‘Best European Documentary Film Award’.

In the United States, it was screened at the internationally renowned environmental festival “Nature Without Borders International Film Festival”, where it won the “First Prize for Best Meteorology Documentary Film.”

The documentary "Daniel" focuses on the local community of Metamorfosi in the municipality of Palamas, a place where five rivers converge. Through the artistic and human perspective of the director, it highlights the shocking experience of the destruction caused by the storm “Daniel,” one of the most extreme meteorological phenomena. Using rare visual material, the documentary records with dramatic intensity the destruction, the aftermath, and the hope, in a village that “will never be the same again.”

The meteorological phenomenon “Daniel,” which struck the area on September 6, 2023, caused massive destruction in the Karditsa region as well as the wider Thessaly area, leaving behind 17 dead, 850,000 acres of destroyed land, and over 100,000 drowned animals.
