In the Blossoming Cherry Trees of Agia – A Journey into the Light

The Municipality of Agia is organizing, for the first time, a guided walk through the blossoming cherry trees of Agia on Saturday, April 4th.

In the Blossoming Cherry Trees of Agia – A Journey into the Light

The area of Agia has been known since antiquity as a fertile valley rich in water, thanks to the “many-spring Amyros,” according to Hesiod. Today, cherries are one of the region’s main products, along with apples, chestnuts, kiwis, olives, and olive oil. The springtime blossoming provides the perfect occasion for a first introduction to the area through an encounter with history and poetic stops.

Starting from the Byzantine Vathyrema and visiting Anavra, Aetolofo, Metaxochori, Agia, and Melivoia, participants will explore the beautiful cherry orchards, accompanied by brief insights into the history of the region, while renowned poets will read their works. Alternatively, a 3 km hike is offered in the blossoming Vathyrema, with a meeting point with the rest of the group at the Watermills.

Collaboration: Ephorate of Antiquities of Larisa, Thraka Magazine, Cultural Associations of Anavra and Metaxochori, Agia Runners Club, Melivoia Cooperative “I Athanati,” Melivoia Demas.

Poetry will be read by Thanos Gogos, Marija Dejanovic, and members of the Poetry Workshop organized by Thraka and the Municipality of Larisa.

*A bus will depart from Larisa, Nea Agora Square at 9:30 a.m. (participation cost €10), while there is also the option to join with private vehicles, starting from the Anavra junction, at the Vathyrema bridge at 10:00 a.m. Bus reservations can be made by calling +30 2494350100.

Return from Melivoia at 4:00 p.m., after an optional meal or coffee.

Essential items: Comfortable shoes, water, a hat, and sunscreen.
