Taratsa Film Festival, July 3–7, 2025, Larissa

For the ninth consecutive year, Larissa welcomes the Taratsa Film Festival, an event that has become a landmark for lovers of quality cinema and beyond. From July 3 to 7, 2025, rooftops, courtyards, and selected spots around the city are transformed into open-air cinemas, hosting short and feature films, documentaries, and special tributes from Greece and abroad — all with free admission for the public.

The festival began in 2016 from the need of a small group of people to bring quality cinema closer to the public of Thessaly, in open, friendly spaces, away from the formality of traditional theaters. Today, the Taratsa Film Festival serves as a cultural "bridge," offering the public a chance to experience works that are rarely shown through conventional distribution.

This year’s event features a tribute to Gogo Maragkouli, a filmmaker from Larissa with an international presence and multiple awards, while two days are dedicated to the Drama Short Film Festival, in collaboration with this leading institution of Greek cinema.

Additionally, this year’s program is enriched by the photography contest “The City Differently”, inviting residents to view — and capture — Larissa through a new, creative lens.

The Taratsa Film Festival is held under the auspices of the Region of Thessaly, supports culture in an open and accessible way, and invites us to once again experience the magic of cinema under the starry summer sky.
